Each type of mushroom grows on its preferred nutrient medium (substrate). This can consist of natural materials (such as wood, soil, straw, etc.) or of grain (whole rice, millet, ...). However, substrates should never get into the end product (powder, extracts, capsules). Manufacturers who process substrates produce quantity instead of quality.
