Quality control through unique laboratory analyses

Without a thorough analysis, there is a risk that customers will purchase medical mushroom raw materials that don’t contain the promised ingredients in sufficient quantities. They may even receive a product that contains a different mushroom than the one they ordered.

Using our own unique analytical methods as well the help of third party experts, we can proof the polysaccharide content of our extracts and the accuracy and safety of our medicinal mushroom raw materials.

Careful analyses guarantee the safety and accuracy of our medicinal mushrooms

Once the medicinal mushroom raw materials arrive in our facilities in Austria, samples of each batch are sent to Dronania Pharmaceuticals for testing.

The company is certified according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and IFS (International Featured Standard) and takes care of the analysis of important ingredients such as polysaccharides and beta-glucans as well as the identification of the mushroom species.

Exclusive SEC analysis proofs the right ingredients and mushroom species

All of our medicinal mushroom raw materials are subjected to a proprietary SEC (Size Exclusion Chromatography) analysis before being sent for end production. We’ve developed this analysis method especially for identifying medicinal mushrooms.

By determining the protein content based on the size of the molecule and comparing it to a reference value, we obtain a unique fingerprint for each batch. Each medicinal mushroom can be identified in a manner similar to human DNA. We can guarantee that our reishi extract is an extract and not a powder and that the mushroom is truly reishi and not some other mushroom.

We are the only supplier of medicinal mushrooms using this method. Otherwise it’s been used only by a few universities.

In addition to the SEC analysis the raw materials also inspected through a microscope for a final identification.

SEC analysis also determines the standardized polysaccharide values

We also use the SEC method to measure and standardize the amount of polysaccharides in our extracts. As shown in the image, the polysaccharides are plotted on a chromatographic distribution curve.

Internal comparative analysis shows that some medicinal mushroom suppliers report a polysaccharide content of 30 to 40%, but the actual content is much lower. This is not necessarily deliberate deception, but rather a lack of expertise and sufficient analysis methods.

Such variations in actual polysaccharide content make it impossible to control the dosage of medicinal mushroom products that the end user will use.

Dronania Pharmaceuticals also tests our special MycoSignature Extracts for the amount of beta-glucans, triterpenes and cordycepins.

Agrolab tests our raw materials for impurities

The state-accredited laboratory group Agrolab has been our partner for over 15 years in residue control of our medicinal mushrooms.

The company analyzes our raw material samples for over 250 parameters, including

  • radioactive isotopes
  • heavy metals
  • microbiological contaminants
  • pesticides
  • polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

These tests are done on every batch to ensure that our customers receive products that meet our high quality standards. The corresponding analyses and certificates are always supplied with the products.
