Properties and ingredients of Reishi
Reishi, also known as Ganoderma lucidum or Ling Zhi, is a fascinating medicinal mushroom with a rich history in traditional Chinese medicine. The worship of this mushroom has a long tradition in Asia dating back some 4000 years, hence the nicknames “mushroom of immortality” or “mushroom of long life”.
In the last few decades reishi has become increasingly popular in Europe. It often grows on dead deciduous and coniferous trees such as oaks and pines and is usually cultivated on logs or compressed sawdust.
Reishi is rarely used as an edible mushroom because of its hard texture and very bitter taste. However, it contains many active ingredients that are potentially beneficial to health. Polysaccharides, beta-glucans, and other natural substances such as triterpenes and ganoderma acids are the most important ones.
The mushroom hosts also various amino acids, which are important for the optimal functioning and regeneration of the body. In addition, it’s a natural source of minerals such as germanium, selenium and manganese.

Capsules
In addition to the mushroom extract or powder, the capsules also contain organic Acerola extract, which has a very high vitamin C content. Studies have shown that vitamin C significantly improves the absorption of the ingredients in medicinal mushroom extracts.
The capsule hull is made of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, so it’s completely vegan.
Cultivation and growing material
We grow our mushrooms in their natural habitat, the Chinese highlands, and rely on the expertise of local farmers.
We grow our reishi mushrooms on solid oak wood.
The organic production is done according to the actual valid EU regulations.
Food grade status
The products are suitable and safe for human consumption according to actual EU regulations (178/2002).
Packaging
Powders and extracts are available in 1 kg, 5 kg and 25 kg containers, capsules in either 2000 or 5000 pieces/bag. All orders of 1 or 5 kg are packed in PE bags in a bucket, 25 kg orders come in a paper drum. All packaging that comes in contact with the edible raw materials comply with actual EU regulations.

Production methods
Extracts: Grinding mushroom fruiting bodies, metal detection, hot water extraction, centrifuging, spray-drying. Extraction ratio (indicative): 8:1 – 12:1. We standardize the polysaccharide content of the extracts at 30%.
Powder: Grinding mushroom fruiting bodies, metal detection.
Capsules: Weighing of the raw materials (powder or extract), mixing of the raw materials, encapsulation, cleaning of capsules.
Shelf life and storage conditions
For extracts and powders: 4 years when properly stored: at room temperature or lower, in a tightly closed package that keeps the raw materials protected from light, humidity and insects.
For capsules: 48 months after production date when properly stored: at a dry, cool place (room temperature or lower) and protected from sunlight.
