Brief profile:
The highly adaptable Coriolus fungus grows around the world. It is a true saprobiont and performs a valuable service in nature: it decomposes dead wood and thus helps to integrate the nutrients back into the natural cycle. It can be found on the trunks of dead deciduous trees, and more rarely also on softwood.
This mushroom is primarily used as a dietary supplement. Valuable components make it increasingly important in this form. It has a long tradition in Asian dietetics. Particularly some specific polysaccharides, e.g. PSK and PSP, have been examined more closely in various studies.
